Kathleen left Tacoma, WA, where she had been teaching English and Creative Writing at Pacific Lutheran University, in May and is now living and working in Chicago, IL.

Kathleen's first book, Reading With Oprah, which was a finalist for a 2006 Independent Publisher Book Award, will be available as a revised and updated paperback in Spring 2008. The new edition will feature material on the James Frey controversy, as well as Winfrey's return to fiction with selections by Cormac McCarthy and Jeffrey Eugenides.

Summer 2006!
Kathy left Provincetown in May and spent the summer in Chicago, IL. In just a few weeks, she’ll leave for Tacoma, Washington where she’s joining the English Department of Pacific Lutheran University. Many exciting things have happened, are happening, and will happen, so read on.

Arkansas announces paperback edition of Reading With Oprah

Rose Metal Press Announces Brevity & Echo
Brevity & Echo, an exciting anthology of short short fiction, will be published this fall from Rose Metal Press. The book features an afterword by Pam Painter. Rose Metal Press, which was founded by Kathy Rooney and Abby Beckel, is dedicated to publishing works in overlooked genres.

Washbox Premieres
Kathy's darkly comic one-act play Washbox, which she co-wrote with Chris Weiher, had a staged reading at the Oracle Theater in Chicago. Aaron Shapiro, who directed the reading, wrote in the program: This play addresses prevalent issues about the modern institution of marriage, our current addiction to technology, and the angst shared by American twentysomethings. With climbing divorce rates, our generation has grown up with a very different perspective of marriage than past generations.
